corey ward and i were talking about public goods last night. a public good is something that everyone benefits from. theoretically, everyone chips in to pay for the benefit. parks are a public good and are indirectly paid for by citizens through their taxes.

im a firm believer that art belongs to the people. the moment i create it, it is with the express intention of being out there to be enjoyed by everyone. the downside of this is that it is, essentially, a lousy business model.
but art shouldnt be a business. since the beginning of human history, artists have created to entice, to inspire, and to influence their fellow man for one reason or another. art belongs to the people. anyone who ever buys a piece of art is really just leasing it, i believe. public goods tend to be underfunded, because when something is essentially free why pay for it? let someone else worry about the cost. this happens with public television and is why theres so many pledge drives to fund it, and why i do the same basic thing.
to wit, i am asking you for three things.
first, if you like my work, if you enjoy what it is that i do and hope that you keep seeing it, thank you, immensely for your support, and please consider making a donation so that i can keep doing this for you. at the end of this post will be instructions on how to do this. even if its just five bucks, or even one dollar, your contribution will help me keep doing what i do, and every single penny, i promise you, will go to creating more for you.
second, please please PLEASE REBLOG REBLOG REBLOG. the more people this message goes out to, the more people that may donate. exponential growth is massive growth.
third, please visit, support, and add the artists who support me and who, with your help, i will be working with in the near future. they are:
cam damage
corey ward
freshie juice
echo
kymberly
let me stress that, without your help, i will not be able to work with some of these people, so every penny you contribute will help me work with them and thereby help you to see amazing collaborations here on tumblr.
in the interest of transparency, i am looking to raise a MINIMUM of $1,500 by february 1st. this money will pay for film and processing, model fees, and expenses as well as pay to develop existing film already at the lab. this film has been bundled in groups of three to four rolls each and run approximately thirty to 50 per bundle. if youd like to sponsor a bundle, do let me know via your donation or email. when images are posted, you will be mentioned with a link to your tumblr or any other site youd like to mention. if you are interested in donating but would like a better idea of what my expenses will be, do not hesitate to ask me.
please give what you can via paypal to hcastle@gmail.com, or just click the donate button at highcastle.tumblr.com.
thank you all for your continued support!
